Beginner's guide: your first games
Sky Lords 3D takes a minute to learn, but your first games come down to a few habits. Here is what to know before you take off.
1. Learn your controls
On desktop, move with the arrow keys or W, A, S, D and fire with the space bar. On mobile, the left joystick steers and the red button fires. Spend a first game just testing movement: the aim is to learn to dodge, not to score.
2. Understand the waves
Enemies keep coming. Once you have shot down a set number of aircraft (3 in the first mission), a boss appears. After you beat it, the next wave starts and roughly five more enemies are needed before the next boss.
3. Watch your health and bombs
You start with 100 health points and three bombs. Keep an eye on the health bar, which goes from green to orange to red as you take damage. Bombs are fired with the B key (or the orange button on mobile) and are mostly for bosses.
4. Use the hangar wisely
You start with 1,000 credits. No aircraft is cheap enough to buy right away (the cheapest costs 3,500), so the best early investment is extra bombs at 300 credits each. Open the hangar (M key) before you near the boss threshold: you cannot drop bombs while it is open.
5. Three mistakes to avoid
- Staying still: you become an easy target.
- Wasting bombs on ordinary enemies.
- Rushing a boss instead of moving and shooting calmly.
